Tuesday, August 2nd - America's Night Out Against Crime...

On Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005, from 5:00 P.M. until 9:30 P.M., residents in neighborhoods throughout Larimer County are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement, joining forces with thousands of communities to wage a nationwide war against crime.  National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.  National Night Out 2005 is being supported in part by the Target Corporation and the U.S. Department of Justice.

National Night Out is designed to:  1)  Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; 3)  Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and 4)  Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On August 2nd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Larimer County will be hosting cookouts and block parties.  Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden and his staff, including special units, will be visiting neighborhoods for the purpose of reconnecting with citizens, building citizen-law enforcement partnerships and socializing. Many neighborhoods throughout Larimer County will be hosting a variety of special events, such as, block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials and parades.

Join forces with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and neighborhoods nationwide to “Give Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party.”  For more information, contact the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit at 498-5159.  For information about Neighborhood Night Out within the city limits of Fort Collins, contact the Neighborhood Resource Office at 224-6046.
