Venus and Jupiter last night at sunset.

Monday, September 5th - Planets Shine Bright In Evening Sky...

Step outside just after sunset and look to the west. There you will see both Venus and Jupiter shining brightly above the horizon. These two planets will be joined on Tuesday by a crescent moon, making for a spectacular setting (sky map). This is another excellent opportunity for parents to join their children in an evening of stargazing. The warm temperatures and early time make viewing ideal. Even small backyard telescopes will reveal detail on the giant planet Jupiter, including four of it's many moons. Through a scope, Venus appears as a small version of our Moon complete with phases. Venus is currently slightly over half-full. The photo above was taken on Sunday evening, and is being featured today at Spaceweather.com
