Tuesday, September 6th - Suspect Arrested For Cruelty To Animals...

Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Riverbend Campground at 7850 West Highway 34 in Loveland at approximately 6:00 P.M. on September 1, 2005, for a welfare check at Unit 99.  Upon arrival deputies noticed a suspicious odor coming from the RV.  After obtaining permission from the owner to search the RV, deputies discovered approximately 74 domestic cats and kittens inside.

The Humane Society responded with a team of professionals including a veterinarian. All cats and kittens were removed and brought to the Humane Society.  It has been determined that most of the cats have ringworm and upper respiratory infections and are isolated at this time.

Alexis Binns, 38, was booked at the Larimer County Detention Center for 74 counts of Cruelty to Animals, a class one misdemeanor which could carry a penalty of as much as 18 months and $5000 per count.  Binns was also booked on Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, a class three felony, as deputies recovered a vehicle in Binns’ yard that had been reported stolen by Fort Collins Police Services.  Binns was released on a $12,000 bond.

The Larimer Humane Society is presently caring for all cats and kittens and has stated it would advise the public if and when the animals are offered for adoption. If citizens are interested in assisting at this time, monetary donations are welcome at the Humane Society.
