Wednesday, September 7th - Larimer County Triumphs at State Posse Meet...

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol has brought the Colorado Sheriff’s Posse Association State Meet trophy to Larimer County.   The trophy itself, affectionately called “The Old Man Trophy,” is a one-of-a-kind, hand carved wooden figure of an old western sheriff.  Carved by Dr. H. D. Niblack in 1962 for the Colorado State Posse Association, the “Old Man” has been awarded to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol 34 times over the last 43 years.

The State Meet, held in Greeley this year, measures the talents and endurance of individuals and teams in shooting and horsemanship skills.  Some of the events include team and individual pistol shooting, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Sorting, Calf Branding, Goat Tying and mounted law enforcement techniques.   Larimer County Sheriff’s Posse was awarded the highest number of winning points for the weekend and came home with the Championship Trophy.  Competing Larimer County members were Gene Olson, Gary McLaughlin, Bob Troendly, Dean Olson, Rex Mannon, Marvin Allerheiligan, Jay Holeman, Dick Reagan, Virgil Taylor, Tom Keenan, Barb Bowman, Rick Taylor, Steve Mauer, Terry Urista, Archie Rodrizuez, Frank Schmidt and Dave Jehu.

“We are very proud of our Posse and extremely grateful for all they do,” Sheriff Alderden said.  “We would have a hard time getting through the year without the Mounted Patrol.”

The Larimer County Sheriff's Posse is a non-profit organization that serves as the Mounted Patrol for the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
