Northern Lights over Storm Mountain this morning,
just after midnight.

Sunday, September 11th - Photo Of The Week, "Northern Lights Display This Morning"...

Beginning around midnight and continuing into the early morning, sky-watchers throughout the area were treated to a wonderful display of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. While not as intense as the "display last November", it was indeed a treat for anyone lucky enough to see it. The colors were predominantly reddish, with greens being seen near the northern horizon. This display was sparked by a "large eruption" of sunspot 798 on Friday. The geomagnetic storm is expected to continue for another 12 to 18 hours, making more auroras "possible this evening" after sunset. A "Gallery" has been set up of photos taken here on Storm Mountain. Photos of this event from around the world may be found at Spaceweather.com's, "September Aurora Gallery"
