Saturday, October 29th - Clocks "Fall Back" Tonight...

Residents throughout our area should remember to set their clocks back one hour tonight before going to bed. Daylight Saving Time will end at 2:00AM on Sunday. We will then officially be on Mountain Standard Time again until Spring of 2006.

The concept of Daylight Saving Time was conceived by Benjamin Franklin. He wrote that he was awakened early and was surprised that the sun was up, well before his usual noon rising. He humorously described how he checked the next two days and found that, yes, it actually did rise so early every day. Imagine, he said, how many candles could be saved if people awakened earlier, and he whimsically suggested firing cannons in each square at dawn "to wake the sluggards and open their eyes to their true interest."

Daylight Saving Time was first adopted by the United States in 1918. There have been several changes and variations since it's original inception, with our current system being enacted by legislation in 1986. Under this system Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00AM on the first Sunday in April and returns to Standard Time at 2:00AM on the last Sunday in October.

Recent legislation has adopted an extended period of Daylight Saving Time as a part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 . Starting in March 2007, the USA's use of Daylight Saving Time will be from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, extending Daylight Saving Time by three weeks.
