Friday, November 18th - Misrepresentation In Phone Solicitation Campaign...

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office has become aware of a new phone solicitation campaign in the Larimer County area which involved the representation of the caller being affiliated with LCSO.

It was reported to our agency that the caller led a citizen to believe he was an employee of the LCSO.  When asked for his badge number, the caller replied that he was not a Deputy Sheriff with Larimer County but asked, “Don’t you want our protection?”

Research of the phone number given by the caller proved to be associated with the UNITED STATES DEPUTY SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION of Houston, Texas, a legitimate organization.  However, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office does not condone these high pressure tactics and the misrepresentation of the caller as being from our agency.

Sheriff Alderden reiterated that neither the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) nor the County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC), which represents elected sheriffs in Colorado, participate in any phone solicitation.  Further LCSO does not solicit contributions from individuals and the CSOC does solicitation by mail only.

Larimer County citizens who receive such a phone call are asked to call 498-5510.
