March 19th, 2004 - Residents Saddened By Lack of Concern... In a statement made to SMN today, residents affected by the alleged use of hazardous material on FR 128, and private roads in the area, are reportedly saddened and mystified by the lack of concern over the situation displayed by local authorities... "They would rather play Ostrich, and hope it all just goes away", states one resident... "You hear all of this environmental concern rhetoric around election time and the truth is they could care less about the environment... Direct Federal violations are occurring as we speak but nobody seems to give a damn"... Residents have taken samples, photos, and video of the suspected contamination... "If they won't tell us what's in this crap, we will find out for ourselves... There are some serious liability issues here, and it seems to be a game of hide and seek with them", states one affected resident... To date, no testing or other action has been taken, that we are aware of here at SMN... We welcome a response from the parties involved...

March 16th, 2004 - Magnesium Level Abnormally High... The parents of a child with suspected Magnesium chloride poisoning today got the results of medical testing... The magnesium level was elevated, with both kidney and liver results out of normal range... Rocky Mountain Poison Control Center has taken a record of the case for review by a toxicologist, and has advised the parents to have further testing done, as high magnesium, in combination with kidney and liver being out of range, is a definite cause for concern... The child is scheduled to have further testing done, including tests for heavy metals such as Cadmium, Barium, Mercury, Arsenic, etc., as these have reportedly been found in situations where Magnesium chloride products are used in combination with recycled asphalt...

March 15th, 2004 - Magnesium Chloride Resource Page... Due to the number of submissions, we have set up a separate resource page for the issue concerning the use of Magnesium chloride and similar products... All documents pertaining to this issue will now be found there...

"Sunday Service" Gains New Meaning... Several residents of the Cedar Springs area were surprised Sunday afternoon when they were served with papers notifying them of pending legal action against them, by the Cedar Springs Homeowners Association... Close Encounter With Jupiter - This month, the planet Jupiter will be at it's closet to earth this year... It can be seen rising in the east after sunset and rivaling Venus as the brightest object in the night sky, barring the Moon of course... Along with Jupiter, Venus can be seen in the west, with Saturn and Mars between the two... All are visible with the naked eye...

Jupiter, and it's moons, are easily visible in small backyard telescopes... CCD image taken with SMN's 10" scope

March 13th, 2004 - Twin Comets Possible In May Skies... Residents of the Storm Mountain area may be treated to a rare, and possibly spectacular, display this May as two comets grace the evening skies... Comets "C/2002 Linear" and "C/2001 Neat" are both projected to be easily visible with the naked eye starting around May 15th... On May 24th, our Moon, four visible planets, and both comets can be seen in the western sky just after sunset, weather permitting of course... SMN  will utilize it's 10" f/4.5 scope, along with cameras and CCD Imaging equipment, to capture this once in a lifetime event... More information and photos will be posted as it comes in...
