April 8th, 2004 - Magnitude 4.0 Quake Reported In Wyoming... The National Earthquake Information Center in Denver, reported that a light earthquake shook Wyoming at 9:54:12am on Wednesday... The quake, which measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, was centered approximately 22 miles ENE of Jackson Hole, Wyoming... For more information, please use the link provided below:
Signs Of Spring... With our recent warm weather and rains, the sings of Spring are all around us... From budding of trees to the blooming of Pasque flowers, the mountain is awakening from it's winter sleep... This show of Spring is early in the season and is a concern for valley farmers, primarily because of the threat of a freeze stunting peach, and other crops...
April 7th, 2004 - Annual Easter Egg Hunt... The Estes Park Quota Club will once again host the fun and exciting Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 10th at the Community Church of the Rockies... The hunting begins at 9:00 a.m. sharp!!! Bring the kids down with their Easter Baskets to hunt for over 5,000 eggs and 5 special prize eggs... You can also visit with the Easter bunny and enjoy complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and donuts... April 6th, 2004 - FIRE BAN IMPLEMENTED... This afternoon at 3:48pm, the Board of County Commissioners of Larimer County passed an Ordinance, prohibiting open burning countywide... This Ordinance shall apply within the unincorporated territory of Larimer County and shall prohibit open fires, contained open fires or use of fireworks... This ban will remain in effect through June 1st, 2004... The full Ordinance is available below: Work Begins On New Fire Station... Worker's from the City of Loveland, today started work on installation of utilities needed for the future home of, "Big Thompson Canyon Fire Station 8", on Hwy 34 one mile East of Drake... The new station will be part of the "Loveland Rural Fire Protection District", and is scheduled for completion in this Summer...
Rains Bring Relief To Area... The combination of two weather systems moving through our area over the past few days, has brought much needed relief in the form of rain and snow... Should the weather patterns stay moist, a predicted extreme fire season could possibly be subdued and postponed... This would be welcomed by both residents and local authorities, but is not likely... April 3rd, 2004 - Spring Ahead Tonight... Today is our last day of Winter, meaning tonight we return, spring forward, to "Daylight Saving Time", or MDT... The time officially changes at 2:00am Sunday morning... Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed tonight... It is also advised that residents replace the batteries in all smoke detectors in their homes at this time, assuring optimum operation through our upcoming "Fire Season"... Daylight Saving Time will end this year on October 31st, Halloween...
