- Fire On Storm Mountain...
Fire crews are currently responding to a
large fire on Storm Mountain. The fire is centered in the
vicinity of Storm Mountain Drive and Elk Way. Evacuations are
under way for residents in the immediate area and path of the
fire. The fire is described as a 200' column with orange
flagging the tops of the trees. The fire is reported as
spreading rapidly to the northwest. Residents of Cedar Springs
should remain on high alert and be prepared to take action,
including evacuation, should the situation worsen. Storm
Mountain Road is closed westbound at the "T" to all
incoming traffic, other than emergency crews. Air support is
reported as also being on scene. More information will be posted
as it becomes available.
4:00PM UPDATE: The fire is now
estimated at 3 acres and growing. It is now moving to the
southwest. There are several ground crews and two helicopters on
scene. A heavy tanker is en-route from Grand Junction. Reverse
911 has been implemented to notify residents of conditions and
evacuations. Structures are reported to be in the path of this
fire.

5:00PM
UPDATE: The fire is now reported to be between five
and ten acres in size. Two homes have been evacuated
with other residents on alert. There are currently six
aircraft including a heavy tanker battling the blaze,
now known as the "Storm Mountain Fire". As of
this posting no damage to structures or injuries have
been reported.

6:30PM
UPDATE: The "Storm Mountain Fire" now
appears to be diminishing after an intense aerial attack
on the blaze. The intensity and amount of smoke has
decreased substantially in the last hour. The fire is
still being reported as between five and ten acres. A
few homes have been evacuated. Residents are advised to
stay alert. This will be the final update of the evening
unless the fire flares up again.
