Events and Activities in Estes Park

November 1 through November 30, 2004

 

Nov. 7:  Cantabile Singers, a presentation from the Estes Park Music Festival. Admission $5 adults; children free. Stanley Hotel Music Room 2 p.m.

Nov 13: Friday and Left Hand: Cultural Conflict on the Frontier 1800-1870. Author and historian Ron Sladek will present a slideshow and history of the Arapaho in Colorado , detailing their interaction and conflict with fur trappers, settlers, and eventually the cavalry. The program ends with the Arapaho migration from Colorado to reservations north in Wyoming and south in Oklahoma . The program is a joint presentation with the Estes Park Library Foundation. Free. 7 p.m. Estes Park Museum , 200 4th Street

Nov. 13 & 14: DanceFest 2004. From tiny tots in tutus to adults of all ages, this community festival featuring jazz, ballet, ballroom, tap, Middle Eastern, ethnic, hip-hop, pointe, hula, clog and contemporary dance brings together over 80 individuals of all different professional levels. All seating is general admission, doors open 30 minutes prior to the show. 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday Ruesch Auditorium, Estes Park Center of the YMCA of the Rockies 970-586-9203

Nov. 14: Pianist Heidi Lenzer-Camilli performs in the Estes Park Music Festival series. Admission: $5 donation at the door; children, free. Stanley Hotel Music Room. 2 p.m.

Nov. 19: Plein Air Painters Holiday Exhibition.  Show Opening and Awards Ceremony for the Plein Air Painters of Estes Park Holiday Exhibition and Sale . The gala opening party and awards ceremony for the Fine art exhibition featuring the work by local and invited Plein Air members/guests of the Plein Air Painters of Estes Park. The show is cosponsored by Southwest Art magazine at Cultural Arts Council Fine Art Gallery, 304 E. Elkhorn Hours: 5 to 8 p.m.

Nov 20: Native American Crafts. Third through fifth-graders are invited to learn about the diverse variety of Native people in the United States through craft projects like Navajo sand paintings and Plains medicine bags. Reservations are required. $5 per child. 1-2 p.m. Estes Park Museum , 200 4th Street 970/586-6256 

Nov 21: Gone With The Winds, a woodwind performance group will present this week's concert sponsored by the Estes Park Music Festival. Admission: $5 at the door, children free. 2 p.m. Stanley Hotel Music Room

Nov. 21: Holiday Concert presented by the Estes Park Chorale at Hyde Memorial Chapel on the grounds of the Estes Park Center, YMCA of the Rockies. Free will donation at the door. 3 p.m.

Nov. 21: Young at Heart, a jazz party benefit, at the American Legion Hall. 5:30 – 9 p.m. Free will donation at the door.

Nov 26: Come Catch the Glow. An annual celebration to kick off the holiday season. Beginning at noon children will be able to visit with Santa, enjoy hay rides and pony rides and be entertained by characters and animals throughout the downtown area. The day of holiday cheer ends with a 5:30 p.m. free, hour-long lighted parade for the young and the young at heart. Among the floats for this year's event: an Estes Park Christmas Express Train, a Native American float, a bear sleigh filled with 150 stuffed bears of all shapes and sizes and a ginger bread house. By tradition, the parade ends with Santa and his reindeer.  All activities are free. Sponsored by Estes Park Special Events 970/586-6104 or 800-44-ESTES

Nov. 26 through Dec. 31: Magic of Light,  a show featuring Ron Duckworth's glass hummingbirds, columbines and kisses and Cate Swift's pastels and photography. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Monday at the Art Center of Estes Park , 517 Big Thompson Avenue in Stanley Village . 970/586-5882

Nov. 27: Holiday House Collectibles and holiday crafts presented by community organizations to support the work of the Estes Park Medical Center . Admission: $1 at the door. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estes Park Conference Center

Nov. 28: A 2 p.m. performance by the Mountain Winds Clarinet Quartet, sponsored by the Estes Park Music Festival in the Stanley Hotel Music Room.  Admission: $5 at the door, children free.
